Dear Brothers:

We continue celebrating Alpha Men and their Monumental MOVEMENTS during Black History Month.

In 1932, Brother Karl E. Downs, of Delta Chapter, and past President of Huston-Tillotson University coined the phrase “A Voteless People is a Hopeless People.”

That phrase was symbolic of a MOVEMENT that not only brought hope—to black people who had been disenfranchised at the ballot box—but the revelation that they possessed real power and could and should use it by voting.

Today, this MOVEMENT is more relevant than ever before. Alpha Phi Alpha continues what Brother Downs started so many years ago with our ongoing voter-awareness and voter-engagement campaigns. In the United States and abroad brothers are sponsoring “Alpha Day at the Capitol” events to raise public consciousness about the critical issues we face. Further, more Alpha men are running and winning elected office, than ever before.

The ALPHA MOVEMENT recognizes the movements of the past and encourages brothers to continue to do their part to make them relevant today.

It starts with you and me.

Will you join me in the ALPHA MOVEMENT?
